When I first laid eyes on this woodcut reproduction, I facetiously thought: "What men think women do when we're on our periods." Heh. The actual title is: "Two witches creating storms and thunder," so I guess I wasn't too far off.

This is from a book by Ulrich Molitor, called "Of Witches and Diviner Women," published in 1489, at a time when heretics and practitioners of witchcraft were being rooted out by Dominican inquisitors.

I love everything about this illustration -- the looks on the women's faces, the art deco sun, the chicken and snake being fed into the flames. There are all kinds of stories implied.

If you look closely at the attached photos, you may notice subtle differences in both stitching and frames. I've stitched this several times and always manage to find a different frame for it. If you purchase this from me, you can be confident that you'll be getting a piece of art that is handmade and unique.

Single-strand, hand embroidery on cream cotton in a 7x9 inch wooden frame. The art itself measures 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Ready to ship within two business days.
