There are a few fantastical creatures I'd enjoy meeting. Unicorns, Lochness. A vampire, as long as Buffy is nearby. But this guy? That's a hard no. In my opinion, an appendage that shape shouldn't exist. And if it did, it should be kept under lock and key.
I found this Goat Man in "The Historie of Fovre-Footed Beastes," published in London in 1607. The book is by turns fascinating and horrifying, not only because it believes itself to be factual, but because it's chock full of alarming sermonettes, terrifying body parts, and some of the best illustrations around.
Single strand thread on cream cotton, framed in a hand-painted 6-inch embroidery hoop.
