Sometimes I come across illustrations that I love in old, foreign books that I have no hope of reading. This one is from a 1582 German book called "Pandora" by Epimetheus and Reusner. It must be obscure because I can't find any translations or information about anything other than the fact that Epimetheus is a god, not a real person. So. I choose to believe this is Athena, the goddess of wisdom, crafts, and warcraft, holding the bowl of snakes that would later adorn Medusa's head.
This exact piece has sold and is no longer available because of the antique frame. But if you love the embroidery, contact me about the possibility of stitching another one for you. It would be in a new frame or hoop and small variations would occur (because: handmade and also: art).
