Amputation diagrams are so shiver-worthy. I look at them and can't help imagining what it was like back when anesthesia consisted of a swig of whiskey, a stick in the mouth to bite down on, or a smack to the head to knock you out. It's an official: YIKES!!
In my opinion, every living room deserves a piece of macabre art that makes people do a double-take. This is an embroidered reproduction of an illustration from "A Treatise on Amputations of the Extremities and Their Complications," published in 1885.
Single strand embroidery on cream cotton with a 6 inch hand painted wooden hoop.
