Middle View of Throat Muscles
This is an embroidered reproduction of an illustration I found in "Handbuch der Anatomie des Menschen," published in 1912. I don't read German; I just happen to periodically do a deep dive into old medical books, looking for interesting pictures. When I come across something like this, I feel as if I've struck gold. It's an illustration of the throat muscles, the "middle view" to be precise, but to me, it has such emotion. A cry to the heavens, perhaps, for all the trials experienced in life. My embroidered version may not be medically accurate, but it captures the spirit.
Single-strand, hand embroidery on cream cotton in a 6x8 inch wooden frame. The art itself measures 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
