"The Historie of Fovre-Footed Beastes," published in London in 1607, may be my favorite book of all time. It is by turns fascinating and horrifying, not only because it believes itself to be factual, but because it's chock full of alarming sermonettes, terrifying appendages, and some of the best illustrations around. Like The Antelope, here, standing amidst oddly shaped vegetation and sporting strange tufts of fur. How could you not love it?
