This is The Unicorn, found in "The Historie of Fovre-Footed Beastes," which is a book of natural history published in 1658, and filled with absolutely delightful illustrations and descriptions of the animals. The section on The Unicorn begins with a discourse on the question of whether unicorns actually exist, with the author maintaining that they must, otherwise why would people talk about them? (How many high schoolers would love a teacher who accepted such a defense?) The debate is furthered by reference to an Old King James version of Psalm 92:10: "My horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn." I'll leave you to ponder that.
This piece of embroidery uses single strand black floss on cream cotton, framed in a 6 inch hand painted wooden hoop.
